Rain ravages Dibang Valley, five dead
ANINI, Mar 30: Five people are reported dead in Dibang Valley district following torrential rain in the last one week. Reports reaching Itanagar says that the deaths occurred as these people, who were unwell, could not be lifted to nearby hospital because of road blockades at several places. Rain triggered landslides at several places cutting the district off from the rest of the country.

Hundli and Suklanagar along the Anini-
Reports further added that many people remains stranded in Anini and several other block points.
Because of road blockade people are facing food crisis as essential commodities are out of the market and even the available items are being sold at high prices. The district heavily relies on Public distribution system for essential commodities.
Because of bad weather, chopper services have been severely hit in the state.
BRO sources informed that men and machines are working on war footing to restore road communications by this week.

Efforts to empower Small scale Tea Growers
ITANAGAR, Mar 30: The two day training workshop on formation and empowering SHGs for a sustainable Tea Business for Small Tea Growers began at office of the Tourism Directorate premises today.
The workshop is being conducted by Department of Trade and Commerce in collaboration with Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore with the aim to push forward and sustain the organic tea movement in the state by providing support to the small tea growers in terms of capacity building.
Addressing the participants on the occasion, as chief guest Commissioner, Trade and
Commerce, M. Pertin, highlighting the huge potential of the tea sector particularly
organic tea and the investor friendly State Industrial Policy said that providing
such required training in terms of skill development and technical know how, including
marketing strategies to the small tea growers is the need of the hour for efficient
tea garden management , so that farmers can take up tea cultivation as an economically
self-
He further, emphasizing on the need for SHG formation to protect the interest of the small tea growers from factors like exploitation by the Middleman and Bought Leaf factory (BLF) said that “ through the efforts of SHGs , our small tea growers would be able to set up their own processing unit, plan market strategies and design a financial and action plan for proper and sustainable growth of their tea garden and in the process determine their own prosperity.”
Director, Trade and Commerce, Tokong Pertin said that the Department is proactively working to promote the organic tea movement in the state adding that with sincere efforts we can put Arunachal Pradesh brand name in the world tea map. The department is also tying up with Rubber Board of India and other such boards to encourage entrepreneurs to take up economically sustainable ventures.
Earlier, the resource person from Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM), Bangalore, and A.N. Vijay Kumar said that though since last 20 years tea plantation has been on in the state but the present scenario is such that Middleman earn the major share of profit and as such the need to empower the Small Tea planters has been felt. The training is an initiative to provide them with support for institutionalization of SHGs, leadership, accounting records and financial planning for effective management of Tea gardens and SHGs. He urged the Tea Growers to take up innovative efforts like creating own brand product.
President, Arunachal Pradesh Small Tea Growers Association (APSTGA) Tadak Gab, said that there is a lot of financial assistance to promote the sector. However, such enterprises can be run successfully only with skills like accounting keeping, which the training is providing. Tanya Bulo, Member, District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, Daporijo had made a genuine appeal for early completion of District Museum (in this daily on Mar 16) . He had also felt the need to have a museum in the town for enrichment of culture and its promotion among the students and tourists.
In this regard I would like to clarify that the Research Department has been working and pursuing in this direction over the last several years, so that the people who live in the Daporijo Town and different blocks, Circles and hinterland villages get the privilege to enjoy, admire and learn their own heritage. The Community as a civil society is the best custodian of their rich heritage.
The Directorate of Research had allocated fund 1st phase some times in the year 1992 and 2nd and final phase in 1997. The required funds were made available as per requisition/revised estimate of the constructing agency. We have been corresponding and requesting the Arunachal Pradesh Public Work Department to complete and handover the building. As the building has not been handed over to us, we are unable to initiate further programme and policy to start functioning of District Museum as envisaged and visualized in our dream.

TDF conducts orientation prog on STI management
ITANAGAR, Mar 30: The Tribal Development Foundation (TDF) conducted a one-
The programme was organized for successful implementation of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO)’s Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Management Programme in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society.
The STI Management programe is now undertaken by TDF in East Siang district. All together nine doctors from different parts of East Siang district including all the TDF staffs participated in the programme.

DC urges local artisans for quality goods
ZIRO, Mar 30: Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Sadhana Deori today called upon the local unemployed youths and Artisans and beneficiaries of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to produce quality goods to attract customers.
Deori, who is also chairperson, District Task Force Committee, was addressing the participants at a district level awareness camp on PMEGP here at District Industrial Centre.
Enterprise with properly finished products will only sustain the present competitive market, therefore, every artisans and beneficiaries should give more attention on quality rather on quantity, she Said.
She also called for proper market analysis and chose only that project which is viable for the area so that the project is not rejected by the District Task force Committee or the bank.
